Casola Valsenio

Located in the heart of Romagna Apennines, Casola Valsenio can be reached walking back up the Valle del Senio and driving along a fascinating road which stretches across gentle hills characterised by ordered rows of vineyards.

Casola together with Brisighella and Riolo Terme represents the mountain part of Ravenna province; therefore, it boasts the typical culture, economy, environment and costumes of Romagna Apennines.

Il-Cardello

Casola Valsenio is also, and above all, the "Forgotten fruits and herbs festival".

The rediscovery and the protection of several medicinal and aromatic species give you glimpses of rare beauty, such as those in the "Forgotten fruits road" where there are ancient and by now rare varieties of arboreal plants and those in the 'Strada della lavanda' with its extraordinary lilac fields.
This latter leads you to the extraordinary 'Giardino delle Erbe Augusto Rinaldi Ceroni', which houses more than 400 autochthonous and non-autochthonous species. This botanical garden is one of largest gardens in Europe and it has always played a didactic role. For these reasons, it has recently been added among the museums of Ravenna province.

Casola Valsenio old town houses a lot of events dedicated to the improvement of this heritage. In summertime, theMercato serale delle Erbe(night market of herbs) is held every Friday of July and August, while in autumn, the third Sunday of October is traditionally dedicated to the Festa dei frutti dimenticati. During this forgotten fruits festival all those fruits far from our memory and far from the large-scale retailer trade come back into the limelight. We also recommendLom a mèrz, a festival held between February and March during which propitiatory fires are lit to welcome the good season.

At a walking distance from Casola, there is the medieval building 'Cardello'. For ages, it has been the guest room of Valsenio abbey and in the XIX century it became the house of the writer Alfredo Oriani of Faenza and today it is a 'Casa Museo'.

This town also offers to lovers of nature and physical activity the possibility to go on interesting excursions to the Apennines and, in particular, to the extraordinary Parco della Vena del Gesso Romagnolo.

Market: Tuesday and Friday morning - Centro storico
