The museum is arranged within the rooms of the magnificent Palazzo Milzetti, whose construction began under the Architect Giuseppe Pistocchi in the last decade of the eighteenth century and to which we owe the façade treatment with its diamond-faceted ashlar; work continued under Giovanni Antonio Antolini and concluded with the beautiful tempera decorations by Felice Giani and his assistants.

The sequence of state rooms begins on the main floor, followed by a no less splendid series of living rooms and ancillary rooms.
