Since October 2006 the Rocca of Riolo Terme has housed the Museo del Paesaggio dell'Appennino faentino, which has become an important centre for studies and various activities.
It is continuously evolving, and is both a museum and an information and documentation centre which preserves and enhances the historical memory of the location. It is a museum of time and space: time because of the historical setting which brings the Middle Ages to mind.
It can be considered a museum of space because it represents the territory as a whole and is a treasure to be conserved and shared as a symbol of hard work through the centuries. The interior of the castle is laid out in an unusual and evocative way.
There are visual and sound installations as well as plastic models which show historical features of the region, such as the uses and defense characteristics of the fortification. There is also a section with archaeological discoveries from the area, organized by the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici of Emilia-Romagna.
