Next to Piazza della Libertà is the Collegiate Church of St. Michael the Archangel, the city's principal church.
It dates from the early 12th century but was renovated in the 15th.
The interior has three naves and is graced with several paintings by artists from Bologna and Romagna.

Of the original building, only the fifteenth polygonal apse survives, with fine lancet windows inside; on the left hand wall of the chancel is the painting Redeemer and Saints (1542) by Bartolomeo Ramenghi, known as il Bagnacavallo.
