The fortress of Bagnara di Romagna has the only remaining example, in the entire Emilia-Romagna plain, of a complete mediaeval castrum, unchanged from the way it was in the fifteenth century.

The archaeological site Prati di S.Andrea, nowadays just a simple elliptical mound, was the ancient castle of Bagnara, erected in Roman times and destroyed in the 13th century. Inside the Castle Museum is a recently mounted display about the archaeological investigations and finds, one based on a reconstruction of Bagnara’s history with information panels, pictures and archaeological material, the other documenting the fortunes of Bagnara Castle and the important period of fortification building in the Bassa Romagna district of Ravenna Province. On the first floor of the keep is a fully equipped educational workshop, while the second leads to a terrace with panoramic views.
